About Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination (DI) is a team-based creativity and innovation competition.

Team Members Do it All Themselves

Teams are responsible for designing and creating 100% of their solution without interference from non-team members. 
No Interference Policy
  • Team members are solely responsible for all aspects of a solution.
  • Non-team members may teach skills needed and identified by the team, answer clarifying questions regarding the Challenge, and help teams understand project management. ​ ​

What is DI?
Watch this 2 min video to learn about Destination Imagination.
  • 2 and 7 members form a team based on grade or age.
  • Teams spend 2 to 4 months solving a Team Challenge within a budget. Teams also solve instant challenges at Tournaments. ​
  • Teams showcase their solutions at our Eastern or Western Regional Tournaments. Top-tiered teams advance to our Affiliate (state) and/or Global Finals Tournaments in Kansas City.
  • Every team has a Team Manager (age 18+) to teach the creative process and keep the team on track. Learn more about the Team Manager role.
