What is WA Destination Imagination?Washington Destination Imagination (WADI) facilitates the Destination Imagination (DI) program in WA state. Students work together to solve open-ended STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Team Challenges designed to teach the creative process. The creative process is a step-by-step approach that helps students better understand problems, come up with solutions, and learn from failure. Teams celebrate their solutions live at regional and state tournaments.
WADI is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organizationOrganized into the Western and Eastern regions, each region organizes a Regional Tournament and supports other volunteer activities for parents and appraisers. An affiliate committee executes our state-level Affiliate Tournament.
Volunteers, typically parents of team members, become team managers and form their own team. Schools also sponsor teams as an after-school program. At WADI, we provide monthly Team Manager support meetings and our WADI Youth Committee provides mentorship throughout the season. |
Di is 100% Kid-DrivenDI Teams are responsible for designing and creating 100% of their Team Challenge solution. Absolutely no interference from non-team members is allowed. Teams are formed based on their grade or age and are designated as one of four Levels—the non-competitive Early Learning or the competitive Elementary, Middle, and Secondary levels.
